Muscat

Country Overview

With a population of over 5.27 million and a GDP of around USD 114 billion (2023 est.), Oman is steadily positioning itself as one of the Gulf’s rising centers for innovation, trade, and IP developmnt.

Backed by the country’s forward-looking Vision 2040, Oman is investing heavily in diversification, sustainable technologies, and the knowledge economy. The plan envisions a more competitive private sector, a vibrant entrepreneurship ecosystem, and a world-class regulatory framework, all supported by strong intellectual property protection.

Recent IP developments also include Oman’s accession to the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement (June 2021), enhancing Geographical Indication (GI) protection. This is an important step in safeguarding Omani traditional products such as dates and frankincense on the global stage.
